So the reason for the sudden explosion of posts from Alalakh is because our internet (and the entire village’s phone lines) have been down for three days. But, here we are back and linked in to the w0rld to the west–just in time for our bbq for the 4th of July.

Last year, the team built a tandir oven just like the villagers still use and very similar to the ovens that we excavate on our sites around the area. Gurbet is a woman our age from Diyarbakir, and she, along with some of the local women cooks, helped us to use the oven to bake bread. It was amazing to create (the best bread in the world) in such a traditional fashion.
